Save hundreds with these simple energy saving ideas!

Friday 27th January 2012 - 5:06pm

With the rising cost of electricity the benefits of living more sustainably has never been greater, but with a sensible approach to energy consumption, it’s easy to stretch your dollar further.

Check out these simple sustainability tips that are easy to implement and could end up saving you hundreds of dollars.

- Shutting doors of unused rooms makes it easier to maintain temperatures throughout the house.

- Using draft stoppers on your doors and windows can reduce winter heat loss by as much as 25%.

- Choose the right sized appliances. Too big or too small wasters energy especially with air conditioning.

- Invest now in higher start-rated quality appliances and save yourself money in the long run.

- External shading like eaves, pergolas and awnings can reduce summer heat gain by as much as 85%.

- Make use of ‘zone’ controls and only heat or cool the part of your house that you’re using.

- Appliances on standby still use power. Turn them off for maximum savings.

- Curtains and blinds keep summer heat out and winter warmth in.

When comparing brand new homes with those built in the eighties, studies reveal significant savings on energy bills. This is because new standards require all new homes to be much stricter when it comes to water and energy usage. If you choose to build a new home you are taking a huge step towards reducing your energy and water bills as well as minimizing the impact your home has on the environment.

As part of the Stockland ‘Power to Move’ campaign you can get your energy bills paid for up to 3 years when you purchase select home and land packages before February 19, 2012. Ask our New Home Consultants about what packages are available on 9214 1199.
